After 2 days in Barcelona, we flew to Marrakech Morocco (North Africa)!!! Our plane ride was approximately 1.5 hours from Barcelona. Its possible to travel from Barcelona to Morocco by a fiery on the Mediterranean sea, which we probably should have done for the sake of an adventure!
Over all, Morocco was the best part of our 10 day backpacking trip. It changed our lives forever! It impacted and definitely changed ALOT of personal bias and propaganda. Marrakesh felt like home. We freely strolled through the alleyways of ancient medina’s. We hung out with locals in the busy El Jemma el Fnaa Square and sipped on mint tea all day! Marrakesh was EVERYTHING!
Jemma el Fnaa Square
We stayed in a Riad which is basically a bed and breakfast ( Highly recommend it!). We spent our first day at Jemma el Fnma Square. This bustling square was quite the experience, especially at night. Here, you’ll find locals gathered in circles for story-telling in Arabic. You’ll find magicians and snake charmers during the day, merchants selling spices, hand-made goods and so on.
The hike was intense but worth it! On the way, we got a little taste of the Berber culture. To our understanding, most Moroccans originated from Berber. The Berber culture is rich with old traditions and customs and still influences the way they dress and live. We stopped and watched a presentation on how to make argon oil from its nut,
Beautiful view of the mountains on our way up
I got to participate in the process of making argon oil!

Berber Village Ruins
As we traversed through the highs and lows of the mountains, I couldn't help but bask in joy to the fact that I got to experience a whole new world, learn from a beautiful culture and heck... travel miles and miles away from home! My little wanderlust heart was satisfied!
One word - ELECTRIC!
Though the electric blue might obviously stand out in the pictures below, the whole exhibit was a SHOCK
( see what I did there?? get it?? Electric... shock?? hehe)
We were just blown away by all the intricate details and of course the vibrancy. Just see for yourself! Oh and how fitting was it to wear a blue Berber dress!
5. Riding camels on an oasis.
If we ever go back, we would definitely do a 3-day journey to the desert. We were so jealous seeing and hearing stories from people who were returning from their journey back from the dunes. I mean how cool would it be to trek through the Sahara on camel-back and spend the night under stars??? Unfortunately, we didn't spend enough days here to have been able to do this. I will be back!
Riding through an oasis was okay though - nothing like the desert though- can you sense my bitterness?
In all, Morocco has my heart! I would definitely do another 10 day trip for Morocco alone. Next time, I want to visit other cities like Casablanca and Fez and of course Marrakesh again
